Does the amount of light intensity received by the leaf affect the size of the leaf? In other words, is it true that the lower the light intensity received by the leaf, the greater the leaf's surface area (to absorb light)?

  1. YES it does.

    Plant adapt to its environment.

At low light intensity plant will have thinner and wider leaf than at high light intensity due to a decrease of palisade layer and mesophyll cells.

Wider leaf surface in lower light intensity is aimed to increase the ability of leaf to absorb more light.

With thinner leaf more light radiation could pass individual leaf so it can reach leaf on lower position.
