i have an acoustic electric i havnt played on in awhile because i got a martin D-16R, but i decided to plug the acoustic electric (indiana) into an amp today and it sounded pretty good with it, but the strings are old, so i was gonna change them, but what should i change them too? i use medium gauge on my martin because its an all acoustic, but i think i might try to use my indiana for rock (or at least try it) and i was wondering what gauge strings i should use? Would Lighter gauge strings make a better tone for it if im using it for rock? or should i still use mediums? thanks

  1. You may experience a loss of volume with a lighter gauge of strings. If you are comfortable playing the medium gauge, I would keep medium gauge and maybe experiment with different string material to get the sound that you are looking for.
