  1. Its wired backwards, or the switch toggle is installed upside-down in the wallplate.

But prolly just got the polarity wrong, so just reverse the way its wired now and you'll be ok.

  2. because U live in an alternate universe  ???

  3. the light is ever wired the wrong way round or mounted upside down. you can fix it by swapping the two wires around. on will be live so turn the power off.

  4. Bill H. has the correct response. If you have two switches controlling the same light, the switch may show on when off, but is still wired correctly.

  5. It could be one of two things. The wires could be installed backwards, which all you have to do is swap the white and black wires. Or the switch was installed upside down, whick all you have to do is unscrew the switch, flip it right-side up and s***w it back in. If the switch is working fine and the are no words on the switch to indicate ON?OFF, then just flip the switch upside down and s***w back in since the flipping of the wires require shutting off the circuit, pulling switch out, rewiring, then putting everything back together. It's not difficult, just tedious. Good Luck!

  6. It sounds like the light switch was installed upside down.

You should be able to see the words on/off on the switch.

If these words are upside down then the switch was installed upside down.

    To fix.

Shut off the power to the switch.

    Remove the switch cover plate.

Remove the screws that attach the switch to the box.

    Rotate switch 180 degrees.

Install the screws that attach the switch to the box.

    Install the switch cover plate.

    Turn the power back on.

    Test.

  7. on is usually down so off is up. your cover has been put on upside down

  8. The light may have three way switches controlling it. (Two switches). If you just want to use the one switch, find the other one and flip it once. That will reverse the order of the one you want to use.

  9. do you have 2 switches controlling the same light ? turn the other switch then they will change direction. if you have only one switch,  you may have a 2-way switch with normally close and normally open contacts,  reconnect the wire to the other contact point would fix it.
