  1. I did this when I was a boyscout, and actually made fire.  It can be done, although it isn't easy.

The method with a bow was the only one we could get to work.  It's kind of hard to describe the setup, so I'll let you google a diagram.  But it involves using a bent piece of wood to make a bow with a string (shoelace, leather stap).  You get a board with notches cut out, a straight wood spindle, and a rock or something to hold at the top of the spindle.

Just move the bow back and forth with the spindle looped in the string.  It will spin.  Go fast.  It will smoke... keep going.  Eventually you will build up an ember.  It will fall out the notch onto the ground.  Have a wad of something very flammable around (dry grass, tree bark etc).  Blow on it.  Blow, blow, blow.  Eventually, if you're lucky, it will burst into flames.

  2. Watch Ray Mears on Dave.

  3. Eat a bunch of jalapenos and then f**t over some tinder

  4. Go to a golf course in a thunderstorm and hold the stick in the air.

  5. Have you ever read the Bushcraft books? They teach everything about wilderness survival. Here is a link for you: http://tions.net/CA256EA900408BD5/vwWWW/...
