When I got her I was told that you need a basking light on all day and night. They said to use a red one because they don't see red so u can leave it on always. Is this true? She sleeps perfect at night like a rock.. It's used to keep one side warm. Is everything ok?

  1. Care-sheets argue about this, even good ones. However most recent care-sheets say that bearded dragons can see the red spectrum of light being diurnal and not nocturnal. Many owners say that having the red light on has kept their bearded dragon awake and disturbs them. Also they seem to notice the point of a red laser pointer if they couldn't see red they would not notice the dot. My bearded dragon will attack the red dot.

Lights should not be left on and a basking light need be no more than a normal house light, unless your house gets below 60 at night no heating is needed during the night at all and a cool down period is natural. Running your basking light all night only means you will have to replace it faster.

" At night you should not need heating unless it goes below 65 degrees. Then you can use special night heat lights or undertank heater attached to a thermostat on low.  Without the thermostat the undertank heater will be really hot.

Your lights should be on a cycle of about 10-14 hours on in the summer and 10-12 hours on in the winter. We prefer to keep them as close to what is happening here. You can regulate the lights with simple timers. "

  2. Make sure you're only leaving your main light source on for 12-13 hours a day, and make sure you have a UVB bulb too (or one bulb that does both).  Desert dwelling reptiles like Beardies need UVB to metabolize calcium so they don't get Metabolic Bone Disease, a deforming disease kind of like osteoporosis that can be fatal if left untreated.

Infra-red lights are OK for night time, but ceramic heat emitters are better because they get hotter and they don't emit light.  You should be able to find one at your local pet store.  They're a little pricey but they last a lot longer than an Infra-red bulb, too.

Have fun with your Beardie, hope this helped!

  3. For day get a T-rex light as it puts out a lot of uv which liozrds like,

for night use a red heat. Lizards like heat and espicially for the desert ones like beardies.

  4. Yes it is okay. I have 5 bearded dragons and they do that too.

My one dragon just had 17 eggs also last week.

We had to buy a incubator to let them survive. But they didn't

Actually Bearded dragons first batch of eggs never live.

But ur question i already answered. she is fine
