Lightnin Hopkins to improve the strike rate at Naas by winning the Breda Miley Race
The Breda Miley Race has brought together just four runners who are two-year-old. Even out of the four, two are from the same stable. The six furlong race carries the prize money of €10,350 for which the contestants will race at the Naas race course on Monday, 6th August.
The Sean Jones’ team enjoys a fifty per cent strike rate when the gelding, Lightnin Hopkins, becomes the mount for the jockey, Gary Carroll. The duo has drawn the second stall to race from, and have 2 to 1 chances for winning the race.
The career start for Kodiac’s gelding was in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 2YO Auction Maiden on 13th June, 2012 at Fairyhouse over six furlongs. Lightnin Hopkins missed the chance of breaking the maiden just due to the margin of half a length as winner, Boston Rocker, went through the wire.
In the field of nine he started racing from the mid division and by the time the first three furlongs of the race went down, he ranked sixth. He made progress two furlongs out and notched up to the third position when the final furlong was to go, and threatened the winner near home.
The second chance of the two-year-old out of, Bundle Of Joy, was in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden on 27th June, 2012 at the Naas race course over six furlongs.
He did not waste the opportunity and broke the maiden successfully by the margin of ¾ of a length. After taking off from the fifth gate with jockey, Gary Carroll onboard, he did not wait for long to lead the track. His dominance was challenged by Strapless inside the final furlong, but he remained strong and dodged the winner by his speed.
His stable mate, Tennessee Wildcat, is far more experienced and is supported by 6 to 1 chances for the race today. His second last race was at Naas, but was not as close as to winning, he ended third.
The other two participants for the race are Blue Bullet and Boston Rocker.
