Former Olympique de Marseille player Fabrice Fiorese returns to the Rhone giants and talks about his controversial move away from Stade Velodrome and good times at the club.
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 player Fabrice Fiorese visited the training centre of the Ligue 1 giants to meet some of his former colleagues at the club.
Yesterday, the training centre of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Louis-Dreyfus saw a return of one of Marseille’s former players after a long time. Surely, this was not the most loved person among the Marseille faithful. However, without at rancour and bitterness, the former striker
of Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain took some time out to meet his former teammates and colleagues.
Fiorese, now 36, was a product of Olympique Lyonnais’ youth academy and after not being able to get regular game time with Les Gones, joined EA Guingamp where after 111 appearances, he was snapped up by Paris Saint-Germain.
At the Ile giants, he spent two season before he joined Olympique de Marseille in the summer of 2004. Despite his status as the darling of Parc des Princes, Fiorese became a symbol of hate because of several unsporting acts and strong temperament. A move
to Marseille further infuriated PSG fans.
However, a move to the Rhone giants turned out to be the downfall of the talented striker/attacking midfielder. He was never really accepted by the supporters as one of their own and failed loan spells with Qatari giants Al Rayyan and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153 followed
without a good outcome.
In December 2007, Fiorese chose to terminate his contract with Marseille under controversial circumstances and joined Picardy Amiens for one and a half years. however, Fiorese’s career would never re-launch and he would eventually retire from football one
August 10, 2009.
While talking to the media, Fiorese said that he is no more resentful at what happened with him and Marseille and said that he would always take positives out of the club where his status slipped into oblivion.
“Things have changed and it is my pleasure to be here. I’m not resentful on the contrary. I am honest and always said what I thought even if it deranged my career. I was not very good at OM. Had I been (good), I might have created fewer problems. We had
a good team with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 (Dehu), Benoit (Pedretti), Peguy (Luyindula), Steve (Marlet) and Liza (Bixente Lizarazu).
The 36-year-old is certainly giving a distinct aura of a changed man following his retirement from football.
