In yet another exciting week in the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 Championelle, Montpellier Herault returned to the Ligue 1 summit by beating Bordeaux as PSG were held to an entertaining 4-4 draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130
Parisians entertained but dethroned
The biggest news of the weekend was of course the outcome of the game between Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain. Before the game started, Montpellier Herault had already provisionally returned to the top of the Ligue 1 standings.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Utaka-c18898 goal late in the second half. Following Montpellier’s win, it was PSG’s turn to make sure they left Rhone with three points in the bag.
The visitors got off to a perfect start when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Bastos-c25461 scored a
goal each. However, just before the break, Nene scored.
Lyon scored again in the second half to make it 2-2. However, Les Gones were to experience a dramatic turn around when Ceara and then Guillaume Hoarau scored at the death to keep Carlo Ancelotti’s unbeaten streak.
However, Les Parisiens now trail Montpellier by a solitary point which means that the title race is still wide open.
Les Dogues miss out
Rudi Garcia’s LOSC Lille played Stade Rennais on Sunday. Ahead of the game, the reigning champions had a great chance to gain more ground but failed to do so after a Mevlut Erdinc goal confined the game to a 1-1 draw. However, Lille have a game in hand and
are comfortably sitting in the last Champions League spot.
Rhone giants drop points
As mentioned earlier, Olympique Lyonnais dropped points at home despite playing a game that many term was the best game of the season so far. However, a draw means that Les Gones’ chances of playing in the Champions League are getting slimmer by the minute
and Remi Garde desperately needs to turn things around for a team that seems to have forgotten how to register wins.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 on the other hand, were undone by Stade Brestois. Didier Deschamps side lost the game 1-0. The defeat spells an end to the club’s recent unbeaten streak. Now, Les Phoceens are in eighth place in the Ligue 1 standings and should fully
concentrate on trying to get close to a top three finish which is becoming increasingly difficult.
Another Rhone side, AS Saint-Etienne dropped points when they were held to a stalemate by relegation-threatened http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AJ-Auxerre-c38247.
A weekend full of controversy
The weekend action was marred by many arbitration controversies. In Caen, Frank Dumas was under a lot of scrutiny.
In Lyon, Jean-Michel Aulas was not impressed with the way referee Monsieur Fautrel gave decision in Lyon’s 4-4 draw against PSG.
The same goes for Olympique de Marseille who were denied a penalty. The same goes for LOSC Lille who felt they should have gotten a penalty against Rennais.
The top
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toulouse-FC-c40751 once again showed that they have what it takes to trouble the traditional Ligue 1 order. Though many would argue this, Les Pitchouns could be the dark horses of the season following their 2-0 win over hapless Sochaux Montbéliard who should start
thinking about life in Ligue 2.
The flop
Christian Gourcuff’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valenciennes-FC-c40865 who have made a great start to the new year. Throughout the game, Lorient showed no signs of promise. Furthermore, Les Merlus have failed to win a game since last November and things would
get even worse if they don’t start winning.
