Ligue 1 match report: Dijon FCO vs. FC Lorient
Newly promoted Dijon FCO won their first ever Ligue 1 game by beating http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664. The Burgundy club became second to register their Ligue 1 victory among the newly promoted to Ligue 1 clubs.
Dijon were thrashed all around by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toulouse-FC-c40751 in their first two matches of 2011/2012 Ligue 1 Championelle as they lost 1-5 and 0-2 respectively.
The Burgundy club were full of energy as they started the game. In the third minute, Sanaa Altama sent a ball forward to Thomas Guerbert who gave an excellent ball through to Gregory Thil, who received the ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper to sore
the opening goal. Taking the lead in just the third minute gave them some much needed confidence for the rest of the match.
FC Lorient did not surrender to pressure, but were keen on scoring the equaliser as they continued to dominate possession. In the 25th minute, following a piece of play, FC Lorient opened the defence of Dijon but goalkeeper Baptiste Reynet came
to their rescue as he blocked Julien Quercia’s fierce right-footed volley.
Minutes later, the 20-year-old Frenchman made another magnificent save as Quercia shot from the left side of the box. Reynet kept thwarting Lorient as they sent ball after ball towards his net.
The Brittany club continued to dictate terms of the game as they left the home team with a mere 25 percent of possession. With lack of possession, the home team became desperate as captain Abdoulaye Meite resorted to a reckless tackle, fracturing the ankle
of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Julien-Quercia-c19945 in the 42nd minute. A straight red card was duly given. The score line remained 1-0 as the two teams headed down the tunnel at the half-time.
The second half followed the same pattern as the visitors kept on passing the ball with ease. In the 50th minute, Mathias Autret came close to scoring, but Reynet showed sense of presence and managed to block the shot by charging forward. In the
63rd minute, Autret let lose a bullet of a shot from the left side of the box but to no avail as Reynet once again made a fabulous save diving to his right.
The Dijon stopper continued to frustrate the visitors as he saved another attempt off a free kick from Yann Jouffree in the 66th minute. The home team tried many a time but the attempts went futile.
However, with just 2 minutes remaining in play, Dijon were able to take advantage when goalkeeper Audard failed to clear a throw-in, only to find Brice Jovial score the second goal of the night with a spectacular bicycle kick over the captain’s outstretched
hands and into the goal.
It was FC Lorient’s first loss of the 2011/12 campaign as they slip to eleventh spot in the league table, behind defending champions Lille Metropole. Dijon, on the other hand, make history with this win as they rise from the bottom of the table to the 14th
spot.
