Ligue 1 preview: Paris Saint-Germain Vs Nancy Lorraine
Parc des Princes, Paris will see Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain play host to lowly Nancy Lorraine in Round 14 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 action on November 20, 2011.
With the best home record in Ligue 1 this season, Les Parisiens will be confident of returning back to winning ways when they take on Nancy Lorraine at home. The game marks PSG’s 600th Ligue 1 match and PSG are just two goals short of scoring
2000 goals in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899’s top tier.
The first time PSG scored a goal in Ligue 1 was back in August 1971 when France international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jean-c18112-Claude Bras scored ironically against Nancy. With PSG currently averaging two goals per game, it seems that Les Parisiens will be scoring their 2000th
goal against the side they scored against for the first time when they won promotion to the Ligue 1 40 years ago.
Despite a great start to the new campaign in which PSG have brushed aside their rivals with rancorous approach, coach Antoine Kombouare’s future at the club still hangs in balance. The Kanak coach has certainly done well with the team but is not yet out
of the woods after the club has reportedly been looking for a high-profile coach.
A 1-1 draw against Bordeaux in Week 13 saw PSG’s six-game winning streak come to an end. However, the Ile club is still in great control over the Ligue 1 standings and Kombouare would certainly be looking to guide PSG to a win in order to give himself more
time.
Kombouare has been under a lot of pressure lately and the most experienced coach of Ligue 1, Jean Fernandez who is currently at Nancy has leapt to the defence of his fellow countryman.
“Antoine is getting good results. He is a quality coach. He’s got everything needed to succeed. In football I talk with a lot of people and people are unanimous when it comes to him. People say that PSG aren’t playing well. He’s certainly got quality players
but you can’t build a side by simply waving a magic want. You have to give the coach time and show some patience. At Real Madrid, even Jose Mourinho needed a year before having success,” Fernandez said.
Later in the week PSG sporting director http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 denied rumours of Kombouare’s future at the club by saying that he would want to have him until the end of the season. While talking about the rumours about Ancelotti coming to the club, Leonardo said that
the club never directly approached the former AC Milan manager.
The last time PSG managed to beat Nancy at home was in 2009/2009 when they won 4-1 at the Parc des Princes. Since then, PSG have drawn all home games against Nancy.
Since Week 3 of Ligue 1 action, Nancy have been mired in the bottom of the Ligue 1 standings. However, recent home wins over Stade Brestois and Nice have given the club a chance to move away from danger.
