Ligue 1 special: Edouard Cisse of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 should consider his future at the club
At the end of the day, the most a football coach can do is to field 11 players and use three subs. Of those who are left waiting for their turn, nothing can be said except the hope of playing some part in the next game.
It is a coach’s duty to field the best possible starting XI and though mistakes are made sometimes, one cannot challenge a manager’s authority over who will start and who will sit out.
Understandably, many players struggle to clink under particular coaches and some players are never even given a chance to shine to impress.
The summer transfer window is the time for the ‘ignored’ players to consider their futures at their respective clubs in order to revive stalled careers.
Olympique de Marseille midfielder Edouard Cisse is one of those players who should move on to a new club this summer in order to get more regular playing time. At the age of 33, the former PSG man should be looking for one last challenge before he hangs
his boots.
The 33-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player joined Olympique de Marseille on a free transfer following the end of his 2-year deal at Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas in the summer of 2009. At that time, Cisse was 30.
Didier Deschamps made a good decision by signing the Frenchman who was an important part of the AS Monaco side that reached the final of the UEFA Champions League against Porto during Deschamps’ time at the Monegasque club.
However, it seems that Edouard Cisse would be deemed surplus to requirements next season following the arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alou-Diarra-c5259 from Ligue 1 side FC Girondins de Bordeaux a few days ago.
The writing was on the wall for Cisse already in the 2010/2011 Ligue 1 season when the former Besiktas man was displaced by Stephane M’Bia in the midfield. The Cameroonian international’s ability to play as a defensive midfielder and as a centre-back when
required was much appreciated by Deschamps which consigned Cisse to a mere peripheral role for most part of the second half of the season.
Cisse is now in the final year of his contract at the Rhone club. The 33-year-old is no more in Deschamps’ plans for next season so a move away from the Stade Velodrome could do a whole lot of good for a player who still has two or three years of football
left in him.
Preferred destination
Evian Thonon Gaillard
The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Haute-Savoie club in recent weeks. With his playing career coming close to an end, Edouard Cisse could be a great addition to the newly promoted Ligue 1 side.
Evian are also looking at Cisse’s situation at the Rhone club and following the recent arrivals of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sidney-Govou-c33474 and Jerome Leroy at Parc des Sport, one cannot rule out the possibility of Cisse joining a club that is in dire need of players who have Ligue
1 experience on their CVs.
