Ligue 1 special: Paris Saint-Germain looking to start a new chapter in their history under the Qatar Investment Authority
Eversince the formation of the club in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain has been an underachieving club to say the least. Les Parisiens have won La Championnat only twice in their 41-year history. The last time Les Rouge et Bleu won the league was in the 1993/1994 season. Since then, Les Parisiens have not been able to lift the holy grail of French football.
Capital Club, yet not a major force
Apart from landing Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions, PSG have not been able to assert their authority in Ligue 1. While the likes of Olympique de Lyonnais and Lille changed the order in the Ligue 1, PSG repeatedly underachieved since the turn of the new millennium. For 17 years, PSG have not won La Championnat. This seems even more surprising because some of the best football clubs in the world come from major cities. London saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan. Even Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are still a force to be reckoned in Europe.
However, the same cannot be said about France. The team that resides in the capital of France has still a lot of catching up to do in Europe. Apart from Olympique de Lyonnais, no other French club has really shone in the Champions League. PSG on the other hand, have not featured in the competition for more than 5 years. For a club that boasts the biggest fan base in France, PSG should be one of the biggest clubs in Europe and in France.
A new hope
After months of speculation regarding the club’s future, PSG finally found investors who were willing to take the club to an entirely new level. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986 Investment Authority have now taken the major share in the club.
It is still early days but the Qatari Investment Authority (QIA) has given the club hope of good day ahead. With so many players being linked with a move to the Parc des Princes, even the most pessimistic of fans can feel the winds changing in Paris. Colony Capital have been controlling affairs at the capital club since 2006. However, QIA have now taken control of things and are definitely shaking things up at the club.
The last time Paris Saint-Germain were able to flex their financial muscles was when  French television broadcasting giants Canal + owned majority of the shares of the club. At that time, Parc des Princes saw the likes of George Weah, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Ginola grace the Parc des Princes. Since then, not many players of that calibre have arrived at the capital club. However, under the new ownership, the club can definitely go forward towards a brighter future where the club can aim for two things that have eluded them for many years – La Championnat and UEFA Champions League qualification.
A busy summer in Paris
Paris Saint-Germain have already signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Director. The signs are pretty much clear from the QIA. The Middle-Eastern consortium has one task only - to make PSG one of the best clubs in Europe for years to come. Already, the club has been linked with a host of players which means that the club should be quite busy this summer.
A new era at PSG is about to begin and for the first time in years, the PSG faithful can dare to believe that their beloved side can compete for top honours both domestically and continentally.
