Ligue 1 special: Players Olympique Lyonnais should not lose Miralem Pjanic and Ederson this summer
For three seasons, Olympique de Lyonnais have not won a single trophy, either in France or in Europe. Alain Perrin’s departure marked the end of an era where Les Gones dominated French Ligue 1, winning as many as seven consecutive Ligue 1 crowns.
Since then, the Rhone giants have not dominated the Ligue 1. Claude Puel was at Stade Gerland for three seasons. However, the former AS Monaco coach failed to continue the trend set by Jacque Santini, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier and Alain Perrin.
The Frenchman was perhaps overwhelmed by so many expectations but three years without a trophy is something Lyon fans have not been accustomed to in recent years. Jean-Michel Aulas’ patience finally got the best of him as the Lyon president replaced him
with Remi Garde.
The direct transition of Garde from the training centre of Olympique Lyonnais to the head coach of the first team has raised a few eyebrows. However, only time can tell if it was a brain wave on Aulas’ part to take Les Gones back to the glory days or was
it another failed attempt by the Lyon supremo.
Before Remi Garde was appointed as the new coach of the club, many players were expected to leave the club. However, it now appears that a few players, who initially wanted to leave the Ligue 1 giants, are now willing to stay and Remi Garde also seems to
be willing to give them another chance to prove their worth.
Bettor.com takes a look at few players who should stay at Lyon in order to resurrect their careers under a new manager.

Reasons for rumoured departure: The young Bosnian international has seen a turbulent time at Lyon since his arrival at Stade Gerland from Metz in the summer of 2008. After two good seasons with Les Gones, Pjanic started just 15 games for
Les Gones and made 14 appearances as a substitute.
The arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 from Bordeaux last summer is mainly cited as the main reason for Pjanic’s failure to command a regular spot in the starting XI. The youngster has also expressed his frustration at not being able to cement a regular starting
spot and might leave the club this summer.
Why he should be kept?
The youngster has already proven his worth to the club and at the age of just 21, the Bosnian is expected to further develop. Remi Garde should be looking to keep the highly-rated midfielder at the club and must find a system that can make full use of Gourcuff
and Pjanic.

Reasons for rumoured departure: the 25-year-old Brazilian’s third season at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 suggest that
the midfielder might leave the club for Serie A side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 as he might not get regular opportunities at Lyon after coming back from injury.
Why he should be kept?
The Brazilian was one of the most consistent players for Lyon in Claude Puel’s first two seasons in charge. Furthermore, the Parapua-born midfielder showed a lot of versatility in the midfield for as he operated both as a winger and as a central midfielder.
With Lyon looking to spend wisely this summer, Remi Garde should consider keeping the talented midfielder at the club simply to give himself a lot of options in the squad.
