Ligue 1 special: Right things being done at Paris Saint-Germain
Eversince the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986 Investment Authority took over the affairs of Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain; there has been a feeling of hopefulness surrounding the French capital. For years, French clubs have mired in obscurity and had to contend with a more backstage-like
role as they watched teams from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 dominate the European circle.
The fact that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 are the only French club to have won the Champions League just goes on to show how much French clubs need to flourish in order to really stamp their authority in Europe.
A lack of funds and failure to attract wealthy owners can be sited as one of the reasons why the French league has not been as strong as other major European leagues. Even the Portuguese league that has come through leaps and bounds in recent years has been
able to attract talent and wealthy owners since the turn of the new millennia.
However, it now seems that all this is about to change as Paris Saint-Germain are making big moves to rub shoulders with the best clubs in Europe.
A city with a lot of potential
On the day QIA took over, Chairman of the club Nasser Al-Khelaifi was right when he said that the club has enormous potential when the Qataris took over. For a city that has almost 12 million inhabitants, PSG should be one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Furthermore, PSG have no competition in the city due to the fact that Les Parisiens’ only rivals Paris FC 2000 are languishing in the third tier of French football and would take some time in joining their neighbours in Ligue 1.
Finding replacements
Last term, PSG lacked a reliable goalscorer and were short on creativity whenever the ageing Nene was out injured. Furthermore, Claude Makelele was already nearing the end of his career while Clement Chantome was still too naive whenever he took the place
of the former Real Madrid man.
However, the club changed all that this summer by first signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Blaise-Matuidi-c7681 from Saint-Etienne, PSG have found someone who has the ability to fill the huge
void left by the retirement of Claude Makelele. Even if Matuidi does not live up to his potential, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Momo-c26769 Sissoko who is a reliable holding midfielder.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603.
For a long time, PSG had been in hunt of a good central defender who could pair up with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mamadou-Sakho-c23293. Leonardo made the right choice by bringing in an experienced centre-back in the form of Milan Bisevac who would definitely prove to
be a great addition to the squad.
Arrival of a big name
Having a big name in a side can definitely be a good thing. For years PSG had been searching for a player whose stardom could match the stardom of Ronaldinho. However, lack of funds never gave the capital club a chance to go for such a player.
However, the club is now so financially strong that PSG can now fend off competition from the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082.
A deal of 43 million Euros has been agreed between PSG and Palermo. The official signing of Pastore would mean that the club will have spent almost 84 million Euros in this summer’s transfer window.
Though the club has spent lavishly this summer, one thing should be noted that Leonardo has done well in finding suitable replacements and has touched only those areas of the squad that needed to be looked at.
