Ligue 1 special:The curious case of Thimothée Kolodziejczak
Being considered a great hope of French football in the left-back position, Timothy Kolodziejczak’s career is now at an impasse and things are not looking up.
Being promoted to the senior team since the arrival of Remi Garde, the defender fails to impress during games whenever he is given a run out. And while the contract between Lyon and the Saone native expires next summer, the future of the Frenchman raises
a lot of questions.
“You want me to be a better defender and be a strong man. I’m still learning now. For now, it is important for me to progress. After that, I’m sure that I don’t want to remain number 2 all my life. If http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 don’t want me I would go,” this was
what Timothy Kolodziejczak said in December 2010.
The youngster arrived at the Rhone club in the summer of 2008 and his progress was already under the watchful eye of Manchester United scouts. However, Jean-Michel Aulas made sure not to lose the talented defender. Promising yet needing room for improvement,
the youngster still had everything needed to make something big out of his career.
However, things did not go as planned. The youngster won the Under-19 European Championships with France last year and 12 months after that, his career is at a stop-still situation and has maybe even worsened. This season, the youngster hasn’t made a single
appearance and after making a few appearances under former Lyon coach Claude Puel, Thimothée Kolodziejczak has found it hard to impress new boss Remi Garde.
While being of the same generation of young Lyon players that boast the likes of Clement Grenier, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Max-c24993 Gonalons who are offered more playing time, Kolodziejczak is finding thing a whole lot harder than ever before.
The arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mouhamadou-Dabo-c26889 from Seville isn’t likely to fix things up for the 20-year-old either. The former Saint-Etienne man’s versatility allows him to play at both left-back and right-back position thus depriving Kolodziejczak a role of playing as
a backup to Aly Cissokho.
At the same time, the emergence of 17-year-old Samuel Umtiti has further compounded the equation for Kolo who now finds himself in a very delicate position.
Though Remi Garde is going to take 22 players for the Champions League trip to Madrid, Kolodziejczak is not in that list which means that the youngster is getting close to the end of his nascent career at Lyon. All these facts indicate towards the fact that
Kolodziejczak has no future at the training centre of Tola Vologe.
Furthermore, with his contract nearing its end, there is no talk of an extension which clearly means that Remi Garde indeed has no plans of having Kolodziejczak in his future crop of young players at the club.
Arrived at Lyon almost three years ago in order to grow and survive in one of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aly-Cissokho-c5313 for a good part of two seasons.
A recent red card received by Dabo in the Derbie http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 might dare dream of some playing time in the future.
Though it still remains to be seen what unfolds in the future for Kolodziejczak, one thing that is evident is that the life of a promising young footballer is not always rosy.
