If Kelly Holmes gets one, why won't Adlington. Also, there are other athletes in GB's squad that have won more medals in previous Olympics and they haven't been recoignised.....Ben Ainslie, Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins!!! All of them should recieve Knighthoods!!!!

  1. i agree if adlington gets titled in this way then chris hoy and ainslie should definately receive the same. in a way i feel they should all be knighted, they deserbe it and although it shoudlnt happen so often it would definately show some national appreciation towards athletes who deserve more than just a medal and finance.

i wouldnt like to see wiggins or adlington get knighted until later in their career as i feel there is so much more to come from them and at their young age anything could happen, yes they have done well for us now but they could definately be pushed further and knighting them would make them have greater self-actualisation and so they might not try as hard.

our cyclists are definately doing the best though not just the men, victoria pendleton and shanaze reade still to come and if they grab us some medals then we will have obtained the bulk of our medals from cycling.

  2. i hope not she is only 19 i think if the queen was sensible she should give dame and stuff after she retires or towards the end of her career. She has only just begun her career, i don't think it is necessary, i hope the queen ignores that stupid female swimmer who was saying the she deserves to be a dame, she is just stupid. I mean enjoy the victory but don't go over board just look at what happened with kelly holmes after all the praise.

  3. I think it will be a tough decision whether or not to give adlington a knighthood. Ok yer she has matched Holmes number of golds in one olympics but she is only 19, she is still quiet young is she ready for it? Kelly Holmes was awarded for her dedication the sport, noticeably which she retired from after her 2 gold medals. Aldlington has a long career ahead of her.

But she was amazing, especially in the 800m!

But also i agree other people (cyclists are doing fab!) deserve alot of recognition as they've been achieving golds and great medals for a number of olympic games now.

  4. I think there's definitely a possibility that this may happen although the establishment may consider that she is still a bit too young to be made a Dame.  She will certainly be getting either an MBE, OBE or CBE which are given to many of our Olympic medal winners.  I agree with you regarding the other athletes you mention and I would not be surprised to see at least Ben Ainslie receive a knighthood later this year!

  5. I think the whole british sporting gongs has gone a bit too far. Redgrave and pinsent no complaints at all. Holmes was more for a careers worth of achievement. We can't just keep handing these things out to anyone who achieves a bit of success. It will just end up devaluing them.

  6. i dont think they should give so many kinghthoods away, it makes it less of an accolade. but rebecca adlington was amazing at this years olympics

    :)

  7. I didn;t agree with Kelly Holmes being made a Dame after the Athens olympics - I guessed at the time that this feat would be equalled (or even surpassed in the case of the cylists).  It set a precedent which cannot be undone.

I don't deny that these athletes have done brilliantly but where do you draw the line?

Steve Redgrave and Matt Pinsent deserved theirs as they got their medals over time.

  8. You mean a Dame Commander of the British Empire?  because of her age (19) I can see her getting a CBE and a Damehood later.

Chris Hoy is up for a Knighthood certainly and probably Ben too and Bradley maybe CBE (for the moment).
