Like Your Style steals the show in the Aon Handicap Chase at Punchestown
It was a big evening for trainer, Edward Harty as his trainee, Like Your Style landed a massive victory in the Grade A Aon Handicap Chase, which took place at Punchestown on 8th May, 2012.
The race took an exciting turn in the final stages, as the son of Flemensfirth, out of mare, Alpha Style, took the lead at the final fence.
Mounted by M. P. Walsh, the runner finished ½ a length ahead of the Michael Cullen trained Belle Brook, where as the T. J. Taaffe trained Ninetieth Minute, finished a mere neck short of the runner-up.
The winning trainer was pleased with his runner's performence, commenting to the press:
"You need a bit of luck every now and then. He was going to be a good third and I would have been delighted with that. He jumped well and Mark put him to sleep and he came into it nicely. He was maybe done for toe coming down to the last.”
Owned by J.P McManus, the eight-year-old gelding showed tremendous improvement from his seasonal debut, as he finished ninth in the Grade A Leopardstown Handicap Chase at Leopardstown on 28th January, 2012, under jockey, N.P.
Madden.
The trainer told the media that Like Your Style is the first horse he is training for owner, J. P. McManus, after Captain Cee Bee, and he believes that one day the horse would develop and reach his optimum potential.
Edward Harty was expecting a solid run from his runner, but a victory nonetheless was a pleasant surprise, though he did say he would’ve been happy with a third place finish as well.
It seemed that odds-on favourite W. P. Mullins trained Call The Police, would’ve taken the prize home easily as he looked strong in the beginning under rider, Ruby Walsh, but he stumbled and fell, leaving that little gap for the other contenders to
bolt past.
Despite Call The Police’s stumble, Mullins and Walsh still had a reason to celebrate as their runner, Lambro, triumphed in a grand fashion in the Madra Irish Dog Food Chase on the same track yesterday.
The bay gelding raced as a favourite and defeated, Slieveardagh, by a massive margin of 9 ½ lengths.
