  1. that the muskrat was going to ruin the quilt =] i think

  2. I suppose it depends on the context the phrase came in.

I thought it might at first be a reference to some vermin getting into a trapper's cabin and ruining things, but a quick glance on the search engine revealed this site:

    http://www.contracostatimes.com/living/c...

which seemed to be a tour site, and said this:

Touring the Delta by car reveals this patchwork quilt of islands, rivers, channels and sloughs, offering a window look upon villages shaded by eucalyptus and palms, and crops laden with summer's bounty.

If you're early, you might catch sight of river otters, muskrats or blue herons.

  3. Wow, I've never heard that one before. I can't imagine that it would be a good thing though. It sounds like something you didn't want to happen - like undesirable circumstances. I sure wouldn't want a muskrat getting on my quilts or bed. But it could also mean that someone is living it up, or enjoying something that they aren't entitled to, or not likely to have access to - kind of like "living above your means". Maybe. Without seeing it in context or how it's applied, I can only guess.
