  2. I also came up with 770. If you multiply 20 feet by 37 feet (the smaller side) you get 740 square feet. You then multiply the additional 3 feet that makes up the 40 by 20 you come up with an additional 60 square feet. you divide the 60 by 2 (because it is only on one side of the room) to get 30 square feet. You then add the 30 square feet plus the 740 square feet and your end result is 770 square feet.

    You roughly have 800 s/f there.  I bet you have an offset of some kind, thus one wall being three feet longer.  If you are figuring for some kind of floor covering, 800s/f is enough for the room and waste.

    *I hope that you don't have a room shaped like a trapezoid, rather a closet or offset wall on one of the ends that are twenty feet long.  If you really want to get specific in that case, create two rectangles of measurements and add them together -or- figure for the entire 20'x40' room minus the rectangular offset.
