The Australian batting duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 have found an unlikely source of support, the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who believes the experienced players should be given the chance to help Australian groom the next generation
of batsmen.
"The likes of Ponting and Hussey should be given the chance to breathe a bit easily so they can create an atmosphere to help young players develop,” said Ganguly while speaking to media reporters after the two batsmen scored match saving half-centuries in
the Boxing Day Test to set up a 122 runs victory.
“Don't forget Ponting and Hussey are watched closely by the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 in the dressing room," he further added.
The 39-year-old left-handed batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771, who played 113 Tests and 311 One Day Internationals for India, reckons that Ponting and Hussey could help the team perform better. The Aussie management and selectors have to look at the example of Sachin
Tendulkar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229, who are an indication of valuing veteran players.
Both the batsmen have faced severe criticism over the last year for failing to score big runs, and there was talk of axing both the players, for the Test series against India. The selectors kept faith with the duo, and their decision yesterday proved vindicated,
as the runs they scored made the difference.
On a day when a new look Australian batting line-up failed, the experience of Ponting and Hussey shone through. They got together at 27 for 4 in the second Australian innings. They put together a century partnership, at a crucial moment for Australia in
the match. Ponting scored 60, while Hussey made a gutsy 89, and their runs set a fighting target of 291 runs for India to win the Test match.
Ganguly said that the duo still has a lot to give to Australian cricket.
"They have succeeded for so long and after watching them bat in this Test (against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
