Lilac Belle likely to thrive at Lingfield – Handicap Hurdle Preview
Lilac Belle, a black mare trained by Alex Hales, stands as the hot favourite runner for Grundfos Watermill Selling Handicap Hurdle which is scheduled to be held at Lingfield horseracing course on Thursday, February 23.
The Class 5 contest of 2m110y will begin at 3:20 (GMT). Eleven entries on the card named as Only Hope, Tenspinhits, Vivarini, Marie Deja La, Lilac Belle, Tuscany Star, Budva, Munich, Lady Bridget, Doctored and Monash Lad are going to compete for £2,053 of
prize money.
Along with Lilac Belle, Marie Deja La and Munich are expected to bag 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Here we present career snapshots of the trio:
Lilac Belle
Alex Hales’ black mare bagged the first ever victory of her career on February 17, 2012 by beating 8 rivals at Fakenham. She passed through 11 races to reach this hallmark. Now, this fresh victory seems to have hiked her morale greatly.
The six-year-old is likely to perpetuate her momentum and demonstrate an elegant run at Lingfield today, having 70 percent chances to finish first in the race. However, her inconsistency makes the mare greatly uncertain. She will have to unleash utmost firepower
to win this contest.
Marie Deja La
The Chris Gordon-trained black mare has won 4 out of her total 28 races to date. Interestingly, she won a couple of consecutive races each in March-April 2009 and 2010. Despite having immense talent and excellent skills, she has been a little out-of-form
for last two months.
In her last race on January 20, 2012 at Chepstow, the brilliant mare finished 3rd against 9 competitors. In today’s clash, she is expected to fight well and grab at least second top position.
Munich
Trained by Natalie Lloyd-Beavis, the eight-year-gelding exhibited some decent runs during the second half of the last year. In a couple of consecutive races in November 2011, he finished 3rd and 2nd. However, he has been winless since
March 2010.
As a whole, the veteran runner has 3 triumphs to his credit. He has run for at least 37 times so far. The gelding is supposed to run well again today and finish 3rd.
Conclusion
Lilac Belle seems to be above all in all respects. Marie Deja La and Munich are not likely to pose any big challenge to her. Except this trio, none of the other eight runners holds enough fighting momentum at the moment. So, Handicap Hurdle will be a cool
event.
