Lille president Michel Seydoux has agreed to show leniency in his earlier stance of not letting Mathieu Debuchy leave Les Dogues
Newcastle had already registered a strong interest in the talented player and had seen their previous bids rejected out-rightly by the club, the reason reportedly being the ineligibility of the interested club in meeting Lille’s evaluation of the player.
The news that Lille will reconsider their policy on the transfer of Debuchy is surely going to alert Newcastle yet again as they prepare to come up with an improved offer for the talented right-back. Alan Pardew, the man at the helm of affairs at Newcastle,
already saw the club’s 5 million and 6 million euros bid respectively, rejected by Lille.
Seydoux earlier held the view that he will not let Debuchy leave, as Lille felt they were short of time to make appropriate replacement for the talented right-back. In addition, the 27-year-old was an integral part of the team which is currently facing FC
Copenhagen in the Champions league playoff tie.
But Lille’s hopes of making to the Champions League group stages were dashed as the French club went down 1-0 to Copenhagen in the first leg of the showdown.
The return leg of the playoff scheduled for 29th of August will ultimately determine the immediate future of the Lille man. But with the first leg already played at Denmark, reports have emerged from France that the Lille president is ready to
let Debuchy leave.
However, Seydoux will only let go the player, if the right price is offered for the player meeting the evaluation criteria of the player. Also, the move will be subjected to the outcome of the return leg at Lille’s home. Failure to defeat Copenhagen will
surely pave the way for Debuchy’s exit.
It is pertinent to mention here however that, it is Debuchy’s desire too, to make an immediate switch to St. James’ Park, to be joined by fellow Frenchmen Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa and many more who have lately enjoyed enormous success at the club.
The desperateness of the player to move to Newcastle might force Lille to agree to a compromised deal.
