Much to everyone’s surprise, Ligue 1 giants, LOSC Lille and star goalkeeper Mickael Landreau have cut short their love story after the French custodian due to various arguments with the club management
It’s one of those ironic oddities of life that love stories always seem to end badly. The same happened last night when LOSC Lille and their goalkeeper Mickael Landreau chose to go their separate ways. The shot-stopper has chosen to terminate his contract
with the northerners and finds himself as a free agent just before the start of the winter transfer market.
Goalkeeper recruitment
In recent months, there have been a lot of tensions and misunderstandings between Landreau and the club’s management. The first disagreement arose back in the summer of 2011 when Les Dogues signed Nigerian goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vincent-Enyeama-c36182.
Many people felt that the Nigerian international arrived as a possible replacement for the Frenchman who after long discussions, chose to extend his contract to two more years. However, competition for a place in the starting XI was quickly dismissed by
Enyeama. However, Lille once again chose to sign another good keeper in the shape of Elana (a free agent after his contract expired at Brest). Landreau was not impressed by the latest move but stayed quiet.
In all honesty, after having a player of Mickael Landreau’s calibre, it really made no sense to sign two shot-stoppers who can never be understudies to the 33-year-old. Naturally, Landreau felt a bit let down by his management.
Too much talk on the microphone
Landreau, owing to the quality of his analysis and experience, is a focal point of journalists and has always maintained a good reputation among them. However, Lille did not like that attribute of their player and accused him of being too talkative.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international was one of those players in Rudi Garcia’s side who was always involved with the club and came up with new ideas for the team’s benefit. However, the club’s deputy director, Frederic Paquet never had much time for the custodian’s
ideas.
Losing Garcia’s confidence
In sporting terms, one cannot argue that Mickael Landreau’s performances have been really good. In the last few months, the former Paris Saint-Germain man has made quite a few mistakes. Those mistakes cost the custodian Rudi Garcia’s confidence. However,
it should be noted that all goalkeepers go through tough times every now and then. Rather than leaving him out in the cold, Garcia should have helped his main man gain some confidence which could have turned things around.
Strained relations with the Council of Elders
Landreau’s eventual departure from the “Council of Elders” at the club, who linked the management with the dressing-room was also prescient. Apart from his strained relationship with Garcia and Paquet, the 33-year-old had also lost the confidence of some
of the senior players of the side.
According to L’Equipe, the custodian no longer had the support of his captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Mavuba-c31174 which led the shot-stopper to losing taste for playing for Les Dogues after four years.
Things were deteriorating with each passing day so president, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 Seydoux chose to end the drama by terminating Mickael Landreau’s contract who will now be looking to secure a move to another club where he is appreciated as a person and as a player.
