I live on the KY/TN border and I wanted to know if anyone has grown lily of the valley around this area. The plant info says it will grow in this zone, but I havent seen it anywhere in the stores, nor have I seen it growing anywhere.

Thanks.

  1. You can find it in boxes as dried root, but we couldn't get it to grow in 5a. We ended up transplanting some from my dad's place. Try posting on gardening forums for someone that might have some they can offer you for transplant. Make sure you plant in a shady area, and they will grow/spread like wildfire once established!

  2. Now that's odd, because I rarely see it sold either.  I guess you have to go to a specialty garden store, and not just your K-mart.

It should grow well in your area.  While it likes some sun, it prefers more shade.  (not all shade) Like under a young tree.  It doesnt like really dry soil either.  People in KY like their green grass and these lillies can take over a corner of your lawn, so some may not want to bother pulling them back, so they just dont have them at all.
