Lim Khim Wah, Koo Kien Kiat shine in Selangor Open – Badminton news
The newly formed Malaysian pair Lim Khim Wah- Koo Kien Kiat shined in the Selangor Open and clinched the men’s doubles title on Sunday.
The duo, which was formed recently by the national doubles coach, sealed the glory with a straight-set victory over the second finalist pair of Mak Hee Chun and Tan Wee Kiong.
The Malaysian doubles expert Lim Khim Wah was Goh V Shem’s partner earlier in the Thomas Cup preliminaries and both forged a good partnership as they reached to 31st spot in men’s doubles world ranking.
The national doubles coach Tan Kim Her split the pair and it was not a smooth sailing for newly formed duo Khim Wah- Koo Kien as the top Malaysian couples like V Shem-Kok Siang and Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong were also in tussle to revive their old chemistry.
The duo Khim Wah- Koo Kien outclassed the veteran pair Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong in the finals of Selangor Open. They were superb in concluding the final match with an ultimate 2-0 lead against their rivals.
Khim Wah-Koo Kien controlled the game from very first set and they looked in supreme touch as their rivals Hee Chun-Wee Kiong were completely armless and harmless against their invasion and surrendered after score sheets showing the final score of 21-17.
The second set was a repeat show of the first one and the champ duo Khim Wah-Koo Kien technically and tactically outclassed their challengers again.
The runner-up couple Hee Chun-Wee Kiong tried hard to level the lead and they took the balance of game in their favour for some time but Khim Wah- Koo Kien reinstated their authority again and snatched the crucial match point with decisive score of 21-19
on the board.
This concluded their straight-set victory in the Selangor Open final and they rose as champions after sweating hard for 29 minutes.
The men’s doubles expert Lim Khim Wah has another challenge awaiting him in the German Open where he is going to match up Ong Jian Guo, again a new partner, in the event. They will have to secure their berth in final rounds by clearing the qualifiers. The
duo is scheduled to meet Lukasz Moren and Wojciech Szkudlarczyk of Poland in the opening encounter.
