It is called Nuevo Sol. You will get S/.2.65 (Nuevos Soles) per  $1.00.

Almost everywhere you will find "cambistas" informal "money changers" who will exchange foregin currency. They ususally pay more than banks, but PLEASE do go to banks, it is safer there. =)

it is the nuevo sol but also they accept dollars and euros no problem at all, just have make sure what is the value every day so there is not problem when u exchange it.
