LimeWire and the law?

Ok simple answer is required here. Is downloading music albums or movies on LimeWire illegal? I have heard that it is but thought if it was illegal how come it hasn't been shut down. Plain and simple is downloading per se an Alan Jackson or Paramore or Carrie Underwood song or album illegal?

i was advised to turn off my sharing..ie dont share your files on limewire. you can turn it off in preferences.  they can catch you if they are able to download files from your computer that are not legally yours.  they will not know if you download them tho. i go to a major techy school and i guess they decided to target my school with file sharing because a bunch of people got caught by the authorities and are prob going to be in big trouble.

Yes, it's illegal. but there is an option that allows you to single out what is legal, though you'll get absolutely no results. Oh, and if you pay attention to things, you'll know what has a virus and what doesn't.

Yes, it is illegal. But I have never heard of a bust from there. I will warn you it is RIDDLED with viruses. So beware.

Yes it is illegal. But...I don't know of anyone personally who has gotten caught. and I know hundreds of people who use limewire. and about viruses, as long as your just downloading audio, your computer will be fine. :)

It's 2008, nothings illegal unless you get caught.

Just don't download millions of songs a day get like an album a week and you're safe :)

For movies, www.watch-movies.net/ is better, limewire doesn't really have any.

For people saying there are viruses, yea obviously there are but for what ur doing u only need .mp3(Music) and .wmv(Movies)

.exe's can be dangerous. and they're not music or a movie.

Edit: Also, yes to answer your question it is illegal. But the chances of them catching you are very small.
