  3. You're asking if my favorite holiday place is nice? Well, think about it, it's obvious. It's beautiful! Just a weekend? Nope, not at all enough time. 2 weeks minimum.

  4. Limerick city is located on the banks of the river Shannon in the west of Ireland. It was founded by Vikings about a thousand years ago.

There's still a Norman castle there, St John's Castle, and many of the streets around the city centre still have a Georgian/early Victorian look to them, but sadly many of these gorgeous, elegant buildings have fallen into disrepair.

Nevertheless, in recent years there's been a sense of rejuvenation around the place. Lots of ultramodern new buildings have gone up (including the Clarion hotel, which is hard to miss) and there's a thriving arts scene: poetry nights, open mike nights, performance nights, 9 art galleries, a highly respected art college, and various theatre groups and arts centres. All this despite the bad press that has the placed dubbed 'Stab City', because of two feuding families. Limerick people prefer to rise above all that ....

There are dozens of pubs, lots of cafes, and some very good eateries also - the Sage Cafe, Moll D'Arby's to name just two, plus a few very good non-European places, like the Moghul Emperor, a very popular Indian restaurant on Henry Street, and Zweton, an Asian place on Denmark Street. There's also a delightful little Italian place on Mallow street, quite new, I forget the name but I had a delicious lunch there recently.

Shopping in the city centre is quite good, what with BT and Debenhams all those big names. There are quite a few smaller shops, but if you come for a Saturday morning, you shouldn't miss the Milk Market for all kinds of great food.

Limerick people are great. Do come for a weekend, and stay in one of the city centre hotels.
