I'm really scared to download limewire, my cousins have it and their computer is so slow and I don't want that to happen to my computer. So if I do decide to download, what do I need to do to make sure I don't mess up my computer?

  1. LimeWire does NOT slow down your PC.  You just have to know what you're doing.  Try this:

If you get LimeWire turn sharing off so people can't download from you.  Sharing slows down a lot.  To prevent viruses, make sure you don't download anything suspicious.

    Examples:

If it just has the song name and no artist don't get it.  If it says you have downloaded it when you haven't, don't download it.

Make sure it has a good amount of peers (which means people giving the file).  If it has a good amount of peers and it looks clean then that shows people have downloaded it and kept it.  It should be an alright download.  I have never gotten any problems from LimeWire.  It may only slow down your computer when it's open but once it's closed you'll be fine.  Make sure it's closed in your taskbar on the bottom right too.  LimeWire hides in the taskbar in case you want to open it again without opening a new LimeWire.

Also, if you want a good Spyware/Virus scanner/protector I suggest Spyware Doctor.  You can get a free version of it from the "Google Download Pack."  I have the link to the download pack below.

LimeWire is a good program, the only way it could possibly mess with your computer is if you're not careful.  Just don't download all the stupid c**p that you have a bad feeling about and you should be fine.

  2. Limewire?

Oooold. Use torrents instead, VERY few contain viruses compared to limewire.

If you're still paranoid use a combination of Adaware for antivirus and Spybot S&D for spyware protection

I would google torrents if you're having trouble getting started

  3. Run anti-virus AND anti-spyware after every time you download things. It should help as long as you have a good and updated anti-virus/spyware.

  4. Install AVG free edition and Spybot-Search&Destroy, update definitions and run a scan on your system once every 14 days or whenever you feel your system is slowing. It will prevent your system from infection. But a combination od AVG and Spybot is a must as AVG scans for viruses and Spybot for adwares, spywares and trojans. Moreover they are lite on the system memory.

  5. It is fine to use LimeWire, many people are using it.

If you want to use, just make sure you scan every single file downloaded to ensure it is free of viruses.

Use an antivirus program to scan it if you have one.

If you don't have, download it at http://free.avg.com/

  6. you can use limewire, but if you are scared about using it you can download free anti virus like Avg and for spyware you can use super antispyware. you can search for both of them here.

  7. Limewire is safe.

Limewire does not contain or give any virus, adware, malware, spyware etc etc.

Limewire is file sharing, the computer you download from may be infected.

What you need to do is install a good Internet Security Suite, not a FREE one. This will scan the download and arrest any suspect downloads.

    Limewire user.

  8. Dont use Limewire or any similar program if u want to keep your computer disease free. I suggest using a program like iTunes where you have to be honest and purchase music and movies.

  9. limewire is not really safe, i believe. my cuhzins use it,their computer  starts lagging

  10. Limewire doesn't slow down your computer,

But you have to be careful of what you download.

    Some files do have viruses,

But if you check carefully, you should be fine. :)

  11. limewire will not hurt your computer. your friends down load stuff without checking all of it first. when u download a file as soon as it is done scan it with your anti-virus and if it is infected it will fix it. i use limewire as well as ares and bit-torrent. go on isohunt.com to down load useing bit-torrent.
