Question:

Limewire virus/spyware/bug/popups?

A few days ago some files were downloaded on my father's computer off limewire. In one of the files, a virus must have been hidden because now whenever he opens his internet explorer or searches the web, popups appear constantly. They are various opoups, ranging from sexual to ads, to other ridiculous websites.

I have already deleted all files that were downloaded the day before, and have also gone through all registry in the C drive (hard drive). I cleared the temp, temporary internet files, cookies, incomplete files, and history.

What should I do next? We already ran defrag and troubleshoot on McAfee.

  1. Cleaning all those folders may not have gotten rid of the infection.  Make sure your anti-virus definitions are up to date and run an in-depth scan of your entire computer.

Also, get rid of Limewire.  It is not worth the mess or the hassle you have to go through.
