Limited connections on Vista, happened after messing with my modem settings using the ip address t 1701HG2wire

it was working before but i tried to do some port changes or something like that and the whole thing just stopped working i called my isp(At&t sbc dsl) but they just got my modem configured to my other computer running Windows XP,

everytimes i connect to my other computer it comes out iwth the limmited connectivity message.

i copied all the Ip settings on the old computer thats connected and put it on the newer one and for a bit i had full connection but i still couldnt get on the internet...

  1. Did you try rebooting?  Believe it or not that usually fixes it for me.

    You say you copied all the IP settings on the old computer...Do you remember copying something called "IP Address" into the "IPv4 settings"?  If so, you need to go back and change the last part on your Vista machine so it's not the same as your XP one (e.g. 192.168.1.2 becomes 192.168.1.9).  If it's already set to automatic or DHCP don't mess with it though.

    Otherwise I don't have enough information about what your setup is or what you did to know how to help.


  2. If you are configured for a manual ip config and/or static ip. Make sure that your dns settings are correct. The best way to get those is by doing ipconfig /all on your pc that does connect. Make sure that everything besides the ip matches.
