Limited-over formats do not help a fast bowler’s fitness, feels James Pattinson – Cricket News Update
Australia’s young bowling sensation, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653, believes that too much limited-over cricket is not helping the fitness of the young fast bowlers all around the world as the shorter formats are more demanding.
The 22-year-old speedster is of the opinion that a bowler has to deliver long spells in Test cricket or the first-class format but there are lesser injury-scares as a fast bowler can continue to bowl at pace at the right line and length.
However, that is not the case in the shorter formats of the game, with every bowler looking to be unpredictable for the batsmen, who are always in pursuit of quick runs. Pattinson believes that in order to try different things all the time, the bowlers tend
to hurt their body more.
"I tend to get sorer when I do play one-day cricket because you're trying different balls, you're coming wide of the crease, you're trying to bowl slower balls. And your action changes when you do that,” said Pattinson. "The good thing about Shield cricket
is ... you just hit the right spot over and over again and your body can get into a rhythm.”
Having done exceptionally well for Victoria in the last couple of seasons, Pattinson made his way to international cricket last year, impressing one and all with his ability to generate pace and bounce consistently.
The rookie however, has faced some fitness issues in his short career so far, which has urged the national selectors to use him very carefully. The budding youngster is expected to play a decisive role in the forthcoming Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757
at home, which begins on November 9, with the first match at Brisbane.
Pattinson wants the officials to create a balance between different versions of the sport as it can help the upcoming fast bowlers to maintain high levels of fitness.
"You go out there and bowl four overs (in short games) at extreme pace and you're trying all those things, it does have an impact on the body when it's not used to doing that sort of stuff,” the fast bowler added.
