Lin Dan and Chen Long surge into second round of the Singapore Open Super Series 2011
China’s Lin Dan and Chen Long eased into the Men’s Singles second round after beating their opponents in the first round of the Singapore Open Super Series 2011. The match was played in Singapore, on Wednesday, June 15.
Lin Dan, who is the World Number Two and the second seed in the event, showed no mercy to Korea’s Wan Ho Shon in a straight-set fight of 39 minutes, whereas, Chen Long thrashed Indonesia’s Alamsyah Yunus in a two-set match in 37 minutes.
Lin, who is the ruling Olympic Champion, opened his campaign against the Korean in a sharp manner, but his opponent was also quick in picking up the bird. The score remained levelled until 6-6, where the Chinese lifted up his speed and started to build a good lead.
The Korean became a little slower as he was facing problems in picking up the fast smashes of the Chinese. Lin controlled the bird form every corner of the court and won the game by a 21-14 margin in 18 minutes.
The second set was identical to the previous one, as the Chinese completely dominated the game. Wan Ho found himself helpless against a firing Lin, who was playing high-class badminton. The Chinese ended the second game by a 21-15 score, in 19 minutes. The 39-minutes fight concluded with a 21-14 and 21-15 margin.
In another opening round match of the Men’s Singles category, Chen Long, who has recently clinched the title in the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, began his event against Alamsyah.
The Chinese proved that he is one of the major contenders in the tournament, as he displayed a top standard game against the Indonesian, who made many mistakes in the first game. Chen won the opening game in 21 minutes by a margin of 21-15.
In the second set, Alamsyah completely failed to stop the aggressive advancement of the Chinese in the game. Chen clinched the second set quite easily in just 16 minutes, with a dramatic difference of 21-7. The final score of this 37-minute battle was 21-15 and 21-7.
