World Number Two and second seed of the event, Lin Dan, tamed Alamsyah Yunus of Indonesia in straight games, whereas, Tago managed to win against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand in a thrilling rubber-set game.
Lin opened the game against the Indonesian in a dominating manner by keeping his speed high. He is known for his power and agility in the court, as he maintained his speed at the highest level. He clinched the first set in 18 minutes with considerable ease
against Yunus, by a score of 21-12.
In the second game, the Indonesian tried to elevate his level of play by increasing his speed. He put up a good show by remaining close to the Chinese in the first-half of the set. However, Lin put more speed in the game and won the second set with a 21-15

In another Men’s Singles fight, Tago played a quivering game in the opening set by allowing his opponent to dominate the game in the ending phase of the first set. Tanongsak played superb badminton against the Japanese by keeping good control over the rallies.
