People from around the world wanting to watch the two most dynamic and top quality shuttlers in the final of London Olympics and they can cheer now as China’s Lin Dan and Malaysia’s Lee Chong have made it to the final as they won their semi-final battles rather easily on Friday, August 3, in London.
The four times World Champion and Beijing Olympics gold medallist Lin, who is currently World Number One and second seed in Olympics, will be up against his old rival Chong Wei who is World Number Two and top seed in the mega event.
Both shuttlers are vastly regarded as the best players of current era as no other shuttler possesses the skills and temperament which is the major characteristic of these two impressive players.
Every fight between Lin and Chong Wei is regarded as the most nail-biting contest and they never disappoint their fans as they always give their best on court.
Chong Wei’s chances to win the gold medal at London Olympics were hampered with an ankle injury that he got at the Thomas Cup Final in May, 2012.
Nevertheless, the spirited Malaysian raced against time and surprised everyone by getting fit in just six weeks and also made it through to the finals of Olympic Games.
While talking about his victory in semi-final against Chen Long, the Malaysian shuttler said that he was not expecting it considering that he could not train well in the last two months.
He stated, “I didn't expect to win (today) because my preparation has only been 50 percent. I said to myself 'I have nothing to lose', but when I saw it was 11-4 in the first game I realised I had to win this match and that's why I played more confidently.”
Chong Wei also expressed that it will be very tough to play against Lin in the final battle and there is pressure on him.
He further added, “It's going to be quite tough and there will be a lot of pressure. I'm definitely going to get a medal but I'll work hard to get gold for Malaysia.”
In the previous head-to-head record, Lin is leading the table with a huge margin as he has won 20 out of 29 meetings.
However, Chong Wei also has the ability to beat the Chinese and he has registered 9 victories over Lin on different occasion.
The Men’s Singles final will be played at the Wembley Arena in London, on Sunday, August 5.
