Lin Dan beats Hu Yun after intense battle in Men’s Singles round-of-16: Japan Open Super Series
China’s Lin Dan struggled hard for three games to win against Hong Kong’s Hu Yun in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 at the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Japan, on Thursday, September 22.
The ruling World and Olympic Champion, Lin is currently ranked at Number Two spot in the Men’s Singles world rankings. He is the second seed in the main draw of the Japan Open and the shuttler has made his way through to the quarter-final stage.
The left-handed Chinese is known for his aggressive approach in the court, as he is considered as the most powerful athlete in the arena of badminton. Despite having victories in all major tournaments in the world of badminton, Lin is playing to grab more
titles as his hunger for glory never ends.
In his pre-quarter-final battle against Hu of Hong Kong, the Chinese played the first game in his usual relaxed but fast style. However, the Hong Kong shuttler also played wonderful badminton throughout the opening game of the match, as he remained close
until the final phase of the first set. However, the Chinese won the first game by playing smart badminton with a margin of 21-19, in 16 minutes.
The second game was surprising for everyone present in the indoor arena in Tokyo, as the World Number 21 Hu played stunning badminton against the champion shuttler. The Hong Kong shuttler took advantage of the relaxed mood of Lin in the second set. The Chinese
lost the second game as he dropped down his speed and lost the set with a margin of 11-21, in just 13 minutes.
The final set of the match was incredible as both players accelerated their speed in the opening half. The score remained equal until the battle entered into the concluding phase, where the Chinese played to his full potential and won the set with the margin
of 21-18, in 18 minutes.
This rubber-set contest ended after 48 minutes in the favour of Lin with a 21-19, 11-21 and 21-18 score on the board.
