Lin Dan beats Lee Chong Wei to defend his Men’s Singles title at 2012 London Olympics
China’s greatest ever shuttler Lin Dan has become the first shuttler in Men’s Singles category who has successfully defended his Olympic title after beating Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei in the final battle at the 2012 London Olympics on Sunday, August 5, at
Wembley Arena, London.
The World Number One Lin, who was positioned at number two in Men’s Singles seeding in the championship, played to his best abilities and overpowered the World Number Two and top seeded Chong Wei in an epic battle.
The in-form Chinese shuttler lost the opening game in the final match but fought back strongly and took the following both games to end up the battle in rubber games with a tight margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Chong Wei failed to win Malaysia’s first ever gold medal as he remained unlucky in the ending points of final set of the match and lost to Lin in three sets with a respectable margin.
Both shuttlers started the opening game in a tight way as they played positive and fast badminton and remained close on score board at the initial stage.
However, it was Chong Wei who played tremendous badminton with impressive control and managed a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, the Chinese shuttler tried his best to stop the progress of his Malaysian rival but failed to drive the pace of rallies at any stage and lost the set with a tight 15-21 score on the board.
In the following set, Lin fought back strongly as he played at his best speed from the opening rallies and managed to take a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, the Chinese shuttler continued his roller-coaster performance against Chong Wei and easily bagged second game with a 21-10 score on the board.
In the decider, both shuttlers put up staggering show of top quality badminton and remained close until the score reached at the ending phase.
Chong Wei was leading the game with a 19-18 margin when Lin showed his brilliance and took three consecutive points to wind up the set with a margin of 21-19.
The Beijing Olympic Champion Lin won his second gold medal in a row by ending up the final match at Wembley Arena with a tight 15-21, 21-10 and 21-19 score on the board.
