Lin Dan beats Shih Kuei Chun in Men’s Singles quarter-final at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012
China’s top shuttler Lin Dan advanced into Men’s Singles semi-final after defeating Shih Kuei Chun of Chinese Taipei at quarter-final showdown in Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Friday, June 8, at Bangkok, Thailand.
Lin, who is current Olympic and World Champion and also positioned at number two in Men’s Singles world ranking, had to work hard to overpower his lower ranked Taipei opponent with a tight score.
The higher ranked Lin, who is top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the event, employed all of his skills to overpower his spirited rival in a hard-fought straight set encounter by consuming 44 minutes in the court.
Shih Kuei, on the other hand, showed a gutsy performance in the court as he played to his maximum potential and remained close to his rival in both games. However, he could not take any set from his top seeded opponent and lost the match with a respectable
difference.
Lin started his campaign in his usual manner while remaining focused in the court and took an early lead of 7-2 on the score board.
However, the young Shih Kuei showed his brilliance when he put up stunning show of flawless badminton and ended the gap by reaching at 7-7.
The young Taipei shuttler was leading the game against Lin with an 11-9 score until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Lin changed his strategy and started to play at his best speed. However, he could not manage to set up a comfortable lead throughout the set as his opponent was also playing remarkable games.
The score was 20-20 when Lin showed his elite class and grabbed the ending points to claim the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second game, it was Shih Kuei who played impressive badminton and set up a surprising lead of 8-3.
Nevertheless, he could not maintain his positive performance as Lin geared up his speed and levelled the score. Until the one-minute break, the score was quite close on the board.
After the interval, Lin started to dictate the pace and remained in full control of rallies. He managed to win the second game with a decent score of 21-17.
The Chinese ended up this 44-minute encounter in straight games with a reasonable 22-20 and 21-17 score on the board.
