Lin Dan blows Shon Wan Ho in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series
China’s Lin Dan continues his peerless performance as he has secured his place in the Men’s Singles semi-final after blowing Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in the quarter-final contest of the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, in Hong Kong, on Friday, November 18.
Lin Dan, who is presently World Number Three, continues his dominance over Wan Ho by winning all six head-to-head matches. The Korean has never been able to beat Lin even on a single occasion. The Chinese worked well for 40 minutes in the court and finished
off the fight in straight games without facing any trouble from his Korean opponent.
The ruling World and Olympic Champion, Lin played his usual fast game against the Korean and took the opening game with a good margin. Wan Ho played better badminton in the second set and remained close until the concluding phase. However, the Chinese controlled
the pace of the game in the end and won it with a decent score.
In the opening points of the first game, the Korean played an attacking game while, the Chinese remained quick in taking the bird early and moving his opponent in all corners of the court with his wonderful drives. However, the Korean managed to take a small
lead of 11-10 until the break.
After the interval, Lin accelerated his speed to take the bird early and started to execute powerful smashes. The Korean failed to earn more points with his smashes as his rival grew stronger in defensive strokes. Lin levelled the score and also started
to build up lead. Wan Ho failed to dominate the rallies anymore against the Chinese, who finished up the set with a 21-15 margin.
In the second set of this men’s Singles fight was quite close as the Korean played with precision this time.  He moved forward while remaining close to his higher ranked opponent. Lin remained composed until the concluding phase and then injected more power
in his strokes to take the set with a 21-18 margin. The final score of this 40-minute quarter-final fight was 21-15 and 21-18.
