Lin Dan: chief contender of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 title – Badminton News
The most celebrated Chinese badminton player, Lin Dan, is the chief contender of the title in the German Open Gran Prix Gold 2011, which is going to kick-off on March 1, at Mulheim, Germany.
Until the quarter-final stages, the Chinese will have a smooth run as no major player is in his way. He has a great chance to win the event as the World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, World Number Two Indonesian shuttler, Taufiq Hidayat and Danish
player, Peter Gade who is occupying the fourth place in the world rankings, are not participating in the event.
The top Chinese will have his first meeting against Stefen Wojcikiewicz from Canada in the opening round of the German Open GP Gold. In the second round of the event, super Dan will be playing against the winner of the encounter between Scott Evans of Ireland
and Kristian Midtgaard of Denmark.
The major contenders in the upper-half of the draw are Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark, who is fourteenth seed in this event. The number seven seed Korean shuttler, Wah Ho Shon, will also be there to make a possible meeting against Lin Dan in the quarter-final.
In the lower part of the upper-half of the draw, the ninth seed of the event, Dicky Palyama of Netherlands will be notable to watch along with the number three seed, Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand. The other seeded players in the same-half of the draw are number
five seed, Yun hu of Hong Kong and sixteenth seed, Carl Baxter of England.
The top contenders in the lower-half of the draw are Chen Jin of China, who is number two seed in the event along with the fourth seed, Sung Hwan Park of Korea. Other considerable players in the bottom half of the draw are Sho Sasaki of Japan who is eleventh
seed, sixth seed Marc Zwiebler from Germany, number twelve seed Brice Leverdez of France and China’s Zhengming Wang, who is occupying the number eight spot in the event.
If things proceed according to paper, Lin Dan, the winner of the Korea Open Premier Event 2011, will have a smooth sail to the final of the event. In the final showdown of the German Open Grand Prix Gold, the top seed is expected to meet compatriot and number
two seed, Chen Jin or another younger team-mate, Zhengming Wang.
The event will serve as a warm-up for the great shuttler of China, as the All England Premier Super Series event is set to begin in Birmingham, England, from March 8-13. All top shuttlers of the world including Lee Chong Wei, Taufiq Hidayat, Peter Gade and
Bao Chunlai will be competing for the title in the tournament. These top badminton players are not participating in the German Open GP Gold to remain focused on their training to perform well in the All England Premier super series 2011.
