Lin Dan continues his supremacy over Lee Chong Wei in major international events – Badminton news
China’s three-time World Champion and ruling Olympic gold medallist, Lin Dan, continued his supremacy over the World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia as he has defeated him in the final showdown of the 2011 World Championships on August 14, in London,
England.
Lin and Chong Wei are undoubtedly the best shuttlers on the planet in the category of Men’s Singles, as both have achieved the highest standard skills of badminton. However, Lin has performed better in the battles between these two players.
In their head-to-head meetings, both players have met on 24 occasions and the Chinese is leading the table with a remarkable 17 victories, whereas, Chong Wei emerged as the winner on seven occasions.
The points table indicates that Lin has some psychological pressure on Chong Wei as despite being World Number One for more than three years, the Malaysian has failed to beat Lin at the World Championships or Olympic Games.
The 27-year-old Lin has grabbed his fourth Men’s Singles title at the BWF World Championships which indicates that he is miles ahead in his achievements as compared to the rest of top shuttlers from all over the world. He played without any pressure on his
shoulders in the final of the 2011 World Championships and won it with a tight margin of 20-22, 21-14 and 23-21.
After winning the title match, Lin said, “The match was going too long and I wanted to just win it. Fortunately, I did not make as many mistakes as Chong Wei did towards the end.”
He further added, “This is my first visit to London and I have not had time to do some sight seeing. I want to buy clothes for my wife.”
While talking about his celebrations after the match, Lin said, “Yes, I was a bit emotional. Chong Wei played well and I have to work hard to get back into the game after the first game defeat.”
Now, defending the Olympic title will be the next target of Lin, as he is determined to continue his winning streak at the 2012 London Olympics which will take place in the same Wembley Arena next year.
