Lin Dan continues winning run by beating Lee Hyun Il in third round of the 2011 World Championships
China’s mega star, Lin Dan stretched his winning run in the 2011 World Championships as he got rid of Korea’s Lee Hyun Il in the Men’s Singles third round, at the Wembley Arena, in London, on Thursday, August 11.
World Number Two, Lin, who has already won three World Championship titles and also grabbed the Olympic gold medal. He is looking for another win in the mega event as he is looking superior in the court. In all of his World Championship matches so far, he
has not been playing at his best but has managed to do well and surge into the next rounds.
In his third-round match against Lee Hyun, Lin worked hard as the Korean was also playing well. However, the Chinese managed to end the match in straight games with the margin of 21-16 and 21-13, by taking 37 minutes of court time.
In both sets, the Korean played good badminton in the opening parts but became slow in the concluding phase as Lin maintained his speed throughout the match, which earned him an advantage over the Korean. The Chinese played aggressive badminton and secured
a place in the Men’s Singles quarter-final.
After beating the Korean in the third round, Lin said, “Hyun-il is a patient and steady player. He is certainly playing better after coming out of retirement. But I am happy that I stayed calm and did my job well.”
He further added, “I feel good about my game so far and I will give my best.”
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the World Championships, Lin will fight against Japan’s Sho Sasaki, who defeated the higher ranked Chinese shuttler, Du Pengyu in the round-of-16. The Japanese worked really well for three-sets and remained successful
in winning the match.
Lin has already lost to Sasaki in the second round of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series. However, this time, he is confident to continue his winning streak in the event by beating the Japanese in the quarter-final battle.
