Lin Dan feels sorry for Chong Wei after his sudden injury in All England Open
The Chinese badminton ace Lin Dan felt sorry for his contemporary Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei and offered commiserations over his sudden injury in title match of All England Open.
The Malaysian shuttler Chong Wei, who was hoping to strike hat-trick this year in All-England, conceded the final match because of the pain in his shoulder which helped Lin Dan hold the crown for a record fifth time.
However, the All-England Champion proved himself a thorough gentleman when he uttered some kind words for his archrival Malaysian maestro Lee Chong Wei.
Lin Dan said, “I am very sorry for Chong Wei. We have played against each other for almost 10 years since we were juniors and we are very familiar with each other's game."
The World Number two player Lin Dan is likely to bid farewell to badminton arena in near future and he is not going to be the only one as the Malaysian shuttler can also call it a day after the London Olympics.
Lin Dan is feeling blue as he is well aware of the fact that the both greats of badminton history have very few meetings scheduled before they say good-bye to the game.
He said, "The countdown is now on (till the end of their careers) and we don't know how many more times we will play each other, so we cherish each time."
The 2012 London Olympics will see the reigning World and Olympic Champion Lin Dan locking horns with his toughest challenger Lee Chong Wei to defend his title. This clash of the titans is surely going to be a memorable encounter as Chong Wei will be in quest
of an avenging victory.
The World Number one shuttler Lee Chong Wei wisely quit the title match of All-England to avoid putting his London Olympics marathon in danger. However, he still looked disappointed at his hat-trick All England title loss because of the injury.
He said, "I am very disappointed at what happened. I had the shoulder injury earlier, but I didn't want to disappoint the crowd. But when I felt the pain getting worse, I didn't want to push the shoulder anymore."
The Malaysian maestro will be able to swing his arms in just few weeks but he wants to be in proper shape for the London Olympics as he decided to skip Swiss Open, to be staged from March 13, 2012. He is also likely to play in just a few selected matches
of Axiata Cup next month.
