China’s incredible athlete Lin Dan finds a winning track at the right time by winning the Men’s Singles title in the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, as the mega event of 2012 London Olympics is just nine months away.
The ruling Olympic and World Champion and current World Number Three, Lin defeated his team mate Chen Jin on Sunday, November 20, at the indoor arena in Hong Kong. The Chinese is quite happy with his victory in the Hong Kong Open as he won this title after
a gap of four years. Last time he won the Men’s Singles title in the Hong Kong Open in 2007.
The four times world champion, Lin is the only shuttler in the entire history of the sport, who has been awarded with the “Grand Slam” for the fact that he has won all major events in the world of badminton.
The winner of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Lin played tremendous badminton in the entire tournament at Hong Kong and won glory in style. He spared no chance for his compatriot and former World Champion Jin and finished off the fight in two games by putting
a 21-12 and 21-19 score on the board.
After winning the match Lin said that has won the title in the Hong Kong Open after a long time and he is quite happy with his win this time.
He said, “It’s been a long time since I won the Hong Kong Open. In between there were two or three years I didn’t play very well so that’s why I didn’t win but it’s good to win this time.”
However, Lin also expressed that the crowd was more involved in the semi-final match against Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei as compared to the final.
He said, “Compared to yesterday, competing against Chong Wei, the audience response was not as big.”
Lin has found his tremendous momentum required to become the top favourite for the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Winning title at the Hong Kong Open is a big boost to his confidence and he is determined to continue his winning run in the 2012 London
Olympics.
