Lin Dan grabs Men’s Singles title at the Badminton Asia Championships 2011
China’s top seed, Lin Dan, took 42 minutes to topple compatriot and seventh seed, Bao Chunlai, in straight-sets at the Men’s Singles final of the Badminton Asia Championships 2011, being held in Chengdu, China on April 24.
Lin started the match in an aggressive way as he heavily relied on his powerful smashes coupled with spinning net strokes. Chunlai remained struggling to find the momentum to stop the progressive run of the opponent. The score progressed with equal pace
as both shuttlers were playing at their best. Lin was slightly ahead at 11-9 in the first part of the opening set.
After the interval, Chunlai accelerated his speed and levelled the score by reaching 15-15. The crowd could not have asked for better badminton as the two most experienced Chinese shuttlers were putting up a great show in front of them. At the final stage
of the first game, Lin geared up the speed of the game and remained successful in winning it with a 21-19 margin, in 23 minutes.
Stung by the loss of the opening set, Chunlai tried to play an attacking game but lost his control over the rallies. He made many unforced errors that provided an opportunity to the opponent to lead the game. Lin built a comfortable lead of 11-6 in the first
part of the second set.
The top seed remained ahead of the opponent in the whole set by playing flawless game. Chunlai put all of his skills in the game to tackle the aggression of the opponent, but failed to stop Lin who was playing at his best. The top seed took only 19 minutes
to win the second set with a 21-13 margin. The concluding score of this title-match was 21-19 and 21-13.
As the World Number one, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia did not appear in this event, Lin found no major opponent to stop his way. It was the second major title for the top seed as he has already won the Men’s Singles title of Korea Open Premier Super Series,
in January 2011.
