Lin Dan hammers Amar Awad to advance into the round-of-16 in the Badminton Asia Championships 2011
China’s Lin Dan hammered Amar Awad of Syria, in the Men’s Singles second round to advance into the round-of-16 in the Badminton Asia Championships 2011, in China today.
The Number one seed Chinese consumed just 17 minutes in the court to get rid of Amar who defeated Zakirov Rafael of Uzbekistan in the first round of the championship.
Lin is famous for his incredibly sharp reflexes and powerful smashes that always earn him an advantage over his opponents. He opened his campaign in the second round in his usual style and quickly established a wonderful lead of 8-1. Amar tried to match
the pace of the game but he failed to handle the powerful strokes of the Chinese player. Lin was leading the game with an 11-2 lead.
After the one-minute break, Lin continued his winning run by stretching his lead. He was playing a wonderful game without making errors in all of his strokes. Amar had no answer to the powerful smashes, cross court drop shots and spinning net strokes of
the Chinese. Lin finished the opening set by taking just eight minutes with a one-sided score of 21-4.
Amar worked hard in the opening points of the second set and remained equal to the opponent until 3-3, where Lin geared up the pace of the game and set up a comfortable lead of 11-4 at the end of the opening half of the second set. Amar tried his best to
stop the aggressive run of the top seed, but failed as the Chinese player was flawless in all aspects of the game.
After the break in the second set, Lin remained on track and spared no chance for the opponent to fight back in the game. Amar was quite helpless against the best shuttler in China and eventually lost the second set with a huge margin of 7-21 in just nine
minutes. The top seed won the straight-set match in 17 minutes.
In the round-of-16, Lin will meet his younger compatriot Kai Wen who proved his worth against Pakkawat Vilailak of Thailand by beating him in straight sets.
