Lin Dan hammers Scott Evans in second round of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Top Chinese shuttler Lin Dan has maintained his supremacy in the game by beating Scott Evans of Ireland in the second round of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011.
The event was held on March 3, 2011, in Multheim, Germany.
It took only 33 minutes for the top seed from China to finish the match in straight sets against the Irish, who lacked momentum before the most celebrated athlete in the world.
In the opening men’s singles match of the day, Dan took only 15 minutes to win the first set of the match. Dan remained on the driving seat throughout the entire set by keeping the pace high. Evans was trailing far behind as he lacked the momentum and speed
to dominate the game. Lin Dan established a quick lead of 11-5 in the first half of the set. After the one minute break of the opening game, the Chinese continued his attack and finished the set by a good margin of 21-11.
In the second set of the match, Evans played better in the first half and remained close at 10-11. After the one minute interval, both players lifted the level of the game by putting more power in the rallies. The score progressed closely and reached 17-17,
where the Chinese became incredibly aggressive and started to hit the shuttlecock down with powerful smashes.
Dan’s powerful assault left no room for the Irish in the game and scored the remaining four points by conceding only one and clinched the set with a 21-18 score on the board. The match took 33 minutes and the final score was 21-11 and 21-18.
In the next stage – the Round of 16 – Dan will meet Hans Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark, who outclassed local player Dieter Domke in straight sets in just 29 minutes.
Lin Dan is considered the favourite in his upcoming match against the Danish shuttler as the Chinese has never lost to him in their previous meetings.
