Lin Dan happy with his sensational victory in Men’s Singles final of the 2011 World Championships
China’s greatest ever shuttler, Lin Dan is quite happy with his sensational victory over Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei in the Men’s Singles final of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, on Sunday, August 14.
World Number Two, Lin, who is the ruling Olympic Gold medallist, played tremendous badminton in the final against Chong Wei, who is the World Number One. The Chinese clinched the match in three games after a nail-biting fight.
It was the clash of giants in the world of badminton where Lin emerged as the winner and with this Men’s Singles crown, he has become a four-time World Champion. Chong Wei was so close to win the match but luck was not with him as he lost to the Chinese
after playing a top-class game. Lin ended the title-match in 81 minutes with the score of 20-22, 21-14 and 23-21.
The opening set was a thrilling contest between the two great shuttlers, as Chong Wei opened up well by taking an early lead but the Chinese levelled the score by playing with great pace. The score progressed closely and reached at 20-20, when Lin could
not stop Chong Wei from taking the ending points and lost the set with a 20-22 margin.
In the following game, the score remained quite tight in the opening half where Lin was just ahead of his challenger at 11-9. However, after the break he rushed towards victory by playing to his maximum pace and clinched the game with a 21-14 margin.
The thrill and suspense reached at a climax as both shuttlers were playing to their maximum skills in this dream final between the two top players. Chong Wei was leading the game in the second-half but the Chinese played a better game and levelled the score
by reaching at 16-16.
The Malaysian got two match points at 20-18 and 21-20, but failed to score the winning point as Lin played thrilling badminton at the end and won it with a 23-21 margin. The Chinese enjoyed the victory by screaming with joy as he has won the World Championship
title for the fourth time in his career.
