Lin Dan knocks out Jan O Jorgensen in Men’s Singles quarter-final of Korea Open Premier Super Series
China’s top player, Lin Dan, has reserved his berth in the semi-final after defeating Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the 2012 Korea Open Premier Super Series on Friday, January 6, at Seoul, South Korea.
Lin, who is currently World Number Two, had to employ all of his skills to get rid of the lower ranked Jorgensen in a straight-set contest by taking 58 minutes in the court.
The Danish shuttler troubled his higher ranked Chinese opponent but failed to control the pace in the last set and lost the match with a decent score. Despite playing well in the whole match he failed to overpower the Chinese rival and crashed out in the
quarter-final battle.
The Chinese shuttler played with his normal style as he kept the pace of the rallies high and did not let his Danish opponent to dominate the game.
Lin’s fast movement in all areas of the court disturbed the flow of his opponent. In the opening half of the first game, the Chinese shuttler set up a reasonable gap.
After the interval, Jorgensen geared up his speed but his Chinese challenger was playing on a completely different level. Lin showed no respect to the Danish player and bagged the opening set with a remarkable score of 21-13.
However, it was a surprising story in the second set when Jorgensen showed his class. He played with wonderful aggression and missed no chance to score points. He remained successful in putting pressure on Lin in the opening half of the set.
After the break, Lin tried to stop the progress of his rival but failed as Jorgensen was flawless in the execution of strokes. The Chinese shuttler could not put up strong resistance in the second game and lost it with a surprising margin of 8-21.
In the deciding game, Lin started to dominate the pace and established a good lead. He remained on track and finished the set with a 21-15 score on the board. The overall score of this quarter-final contest was 21-13, 8-21 and 21-15.
In the semi-final, Lin will take on Japan’s Sho Sasaki, who overpowered Germany’s Marc Zwiebler in the other quarter-final showdown.
