Lin Dan leads with distinction in head-to-head encounters against Lee Chong Wei

China’s Lin Dan and Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei are undoubtedly the most celebrated shuttlers in the Men’s Singles category in the arena of badminton. Both have earned incredible fame and have a big strength of fan following from all over the world.
The encounters between these two rivals always drag the interest of countless people, as the two giants put up an incredible show of high-quality badminton in the court. However, the Chinese is miles ahead in head-to-head meetings between the two shuttlers
with a margin of 15-8.
The 27-year-old Lin, who is currently World Number Two, has won the World Championships three times and is also the current Olympic Champion. He is the only player in the entire history of badminton who has earned a ‘Grand Slam’, as he has clinched every
major title in the arena of the game including the World Championships, Olympic Games, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Asian Badminton Championships and all other prestigious tournaments.
The 28-year-old Lee Chong Wei, who is currently World Number One, has won every tournament in individual events except the World Championships and Olympic Games. He grabbed the Number One Spot in the world rankings by winning many back-to-back events for
the last three years. He is considered as the most successful Singles players in the history of Malaysia. Chong Wei is also known as one of the most hardworking and dedicated shuttlers in the world of badminton.
In 2004, these two shuttlers faced each other for the first time in the event of TUC Asia Preliminaries 2004, where Lin emerged as the winner by beating the Malaysian in three-sets. However, in the following year, Chong Wei took revenge in the home event
of Proton Malaysian Open 2005. In the same year, Lin again proved his worth by defeating the Malaysian in the Hong Kong Open 2005.
In 2006, both shuttlers played four times, where Lin emerged as the winner on three occasions including the All England Open 2006, Chinese Taipei Open 2006 and Macau Open Championship 2006, whereas, Chong Wei won against the Chinese at the Malaysia Open
2006.
The following year was balanced for these dynamic shuttlers, as they met on four occasions and both of them clinched two victories each. Lin won his match against Chong Wei in the China Masters Super Series 2007 and Hong Kong Super Series 2007, while Chong
Wei proved his worth over the Chinese in Sudirman Cup 2007 and Japan Open Super Series 2007.
In 2008, Lin defeated Chong Wei in three events, whereas, he had to suffer with a loss only on one occasion. The Chinese won against the Malaysian in the events of Swiss Open Super Series 2008, Olympic Games 2008 and China Open Super Series 2008. However,
Wei also made his mark by thrashing the Chinese in the Thomas Cup 2008.
Again in 2009, Lin stretched his head-to-head lead by winning three matches out of four meetings against Chong Wei. The Chinese tamed the Malaysian in the All England Open Super Series 2009, Sudirman Cup 2009 and China Masters Super Series 2009. Chong Wei,
on the other hand, emerged as the winner against Lin in the Swiss Open Super Series 2009.
The following year was a tie between the two players, as they met in two events and both of them enjoyed a 1-1 victory. The Chinese thrashed the Malaysian in the Thomas Uber Cup Finals 2010, while Chong Wei proved his skills against Lin in the Japan Open
Super Series 2010.
This year, both shuttlers clinched one victory over each other, as Lin won the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2011, whereas, Chong Wei emerged victorious in the All England Premier Super series 2011.
Since 2004, both players have met on 23 occasions and it is Lin Dan who is leading the head-to-head points table with a comfortable margin of 15-8. Although Chong Wei is in tremendous form, catching up with this big difference is impossible, as he is planning
to leave competitive badminton after the 2012 London Olympics.
